Why should it be grounded?
Poor grounding will not only cause unnecessary downtime, but also be dangerous, and increase the risk of equipment failure.
If there is no effective grounding system, we may be threatened by electric shock, not to mention instrument failure, harmonic distortion problems, power factor problems and many intermittent problems. If the fault current cannot be introduced into the ground through a properly designed and maintained grounding system, it will enter the ground through abnormal pathways including the human body. The following are the organizations responsible for establishing grounding standards and / or recommendations:

However, good grounding is not only to ensure personal safety, but also to prevent damage to industrial facilities and equipment. A good grounding system will improve the reliability of the equipment and reduce the possibility of damage due to lightning strikes or fault currents. The annual loss of work caused by electrical fires in the workplace is as much as several billion dollars, which does not include the related litigation costs and the loss of personnel and enterprise productivity.

Why carry out grounding system testing?
Over time, due to the corrosive nature of the soil, coupled with water, high salt content, and high temperature, the conductivity and connection of the ground rod will be affected. Therefore, although the grounding resistance value at the initial stage of the grounding system installation is low, as the grounding rod corrodes, the grounding system resistance will increase.
The ground resistance testers such as IDEAL 61-920 and 61-796 are indispensable detection tools to ensure the normal operation of the line. Sudden electrical line failure may be related to grounding or power quality.
Therefore, as part of normal preventive maintenance polarization, all grounding bodies and ground connections should be checked at least annually. Once the resistance value is found to increase by more than 20% during the inspection process, the technician should promptly investigate the cause of the problem and take measures such as replacing or adding a ground rod to reduce the ground resistance.
